Midi Hits' samples play on the Real Player (currently called Real One). Newer samples use the Windows Media Player.

You can get the free Real One player at www.real.com - look for the Free Player.

The Real One player can also be configured to play Windows Media songs. Bring your Real One Player up, click on Tools, Preferences, Media Type, then click on the Windows Media check box.
